Last week I got to go home to Pittsburgh to celebrate my best friend, her husband and their baby on the way! Jess is due at the end of March and are waiting to find out if it’s a boy or girl. Since it needed to be a gender neutral shower, Jess and Ted picked a vintage fairy tale theme. Plus they both really love to read and there were just too many stories to choose from. So we went with all of them!
Jess’s parents hosted the shower at their house which provided the perfect, comfortable setting. My other best friend, Chelsy, and I planned the decorations, games and cake. [Chelsy, Jess and I were the “three amigas” growing up at church : ) ] Everything game together for a cute and relaxing baby shower!
Since a lot of fairy tales take place in some kind of forest I decided to use greenery, neutrals and gold to create a sort of enchanted forest feeling. Jess’s dad made an awesome Narnia lamppost as a decoration and for her to use in the nursery.
Everyone at the shower colored a page and signed their name to create an alphabet book for the baby on the way.
It was so fun to see everyone’s votes, but I know she’s having a boy.
It was funny to look around the room and see everyone coloring.
Chelsy’s daughter, Elle, colored the “E” page for her future friend : )
Jess’s mom and sister-in-law did a wonderful job with the food. They even had a hot chocolate bar… yummy!
As favors I designed bookmarks as a reminder to pray for Baby Weaver.
This is one of my favorite ideas I came up with! My sister had left over kraft paper from Christmas so I rolled it out on the tables and wrote with white paint pens on it.
Jess’s mom had this cute hosier cabinet! She was going to refinish it, but I loved the antique look… it just needed some decorations.
A friend from our youth group, Justina, made the chocolate cake with chocolate ganache and salted caramel icing and the vanilla with cream cheese icing cupcakes. Let me tell you, it was deeeeee-licious! Justina also made the cute little garland for the cake and toppers for the cupcakes.
This was a Pinterest idea that I loved.
The “too small” chair was just perfect for Elle : ) Elle liked watching her Momma help with the gifts and clapped for her, too cute!
Jess’s parents had been recently given a fig tree that they had in their living room and was the perfect setting for Jess and Ted to open the gifts.
Ted’s grandma wanted to give the baby its first pair of jeans.
Jess and I went to Penn State together and it’s where she met Ted. Unfortunately our Penn State friends couldn’t make it to the shower so I had to represent!
Jess loves Peter Pan so I made the baby a “Second Star to the Right” baby quilt. I like to make quilts for babies since I grew up with a quilt that someone had made me. Now it’s so thin and falling apary, but I just love it because it’s well loved and reminds me of so much of my childhood.
Jess clearly likes that blanket.
Ted plays hockey so Jess’s grandma gave them a pair of kid skates for the baby to grow into. Jess’s extend family gave them their on crib on the right.
I realized that I basically had everything for a photo booth. So I made some props and with the help of my friend, Kate, and my dad got everything else I needed.
It was such a fun idea for a shower and everyone seemed to have fun with it!
These are my iphone pictures from the behind the scenes of the photo booth. Plus the props were great to for a Elle parade!
After the shower I went outside with Jess and Ted for a couple of maternity pictures. The shot on the left is my favorite! Sorry Ted, but I had to show it since it was so cute : )
Jess’s parents live kind of out in the middle of no where and really have a beautiful piece of property for hosting, living and of course taking pictures!
Thank you to everyone that helped with shower that I haven’t already mentioned! Ben helped me so much with all the wood working and the quilt, my mom came and helped me set up along with Jess’s family. I so love planning these showers for my friends and family to celebrate milestones and make them feel special.
Yay! Can’t wait to meet Baby Weaver soon!
