Although heavy wedding season is mainly May through October, portraits happen all throughout the year. I don’t have a studio so it can be a little bit harder in the winter month for portraits. However, I love in-home lifestyle portraits so as long as your house has a fairly uncluttered room(or allow me to move furniture/decor)with a good amount of natural light (window light) then I can make it work! This year I shot a fair amount of portraits and even did 20 minute mini sessions for holiday cards so I’m sharing some of my favorite lifestyle portrait pictures.
Oh this was a cold one! We shot Laura + Matt’s maternity session for a couple minutes outside in February. We even got their little girl in some shots by keeping their toddler, Hailey, warm with our coats in between shots.
I love these shots inside their house! Their bedroom had two nice size windows and they even let me take frames off the walls.
This was another cold session in February and snow was even on the ground!
I love getting to go back after a maternity session and shoot a newborn session 🙂 Such a little snuggler!
As I’m going through all of the portrait sessions I’m realizing I did a lot of maternity sessions this year. We got to visit our friends and see the cherry blossoms in Washington DC for this session.
I love to get some shots of the soon-to-be older siblings as well!
On a trip to Pittsburgh I got to take some portraits of our friends from college and their growing family.
I was pretty jealous of Debbbie + PJ, their maternity session was taken at this beautiful park literally within walking distance of their house.
You know I love whenever dogs are involved!
These two! I’ve been photographing these little red-headed sisters since they were born and I swear they just cuter 🙂
Janelle + Tyler actually got married last year and we got together this year for a one year anniversary session where they put on their wedding clothes again.
We took a trip to Maine and were able to visit our friends Kerry + Kyle and do a maternity session at an old fort on an island that we could only get to by boat.
Once the fall comes around the requests for family portraits for holiday cards usually start coming in. I normally can’t fit too many in because I’m still finishing up with wedding season, but we were able to fit in this cute family!
Since my weekends are usually busy with weddings in the fall and it’s harder for me to travel all over (I shoot mainly in NY, CT, NJ and PA) to do multiple family sessions in a single day, I started mini sessions this year. I blocked off one day for 20 minute sessions where all the families came to me at a park. It worked out wonderfully! I even got Holiday cards from a lot of the families where they used their pictures! I loved seeing how they used them!
I definitely shot the most portraits in a year in 2018 and I realized how much I had missed shooting families, maternity sessions and kiddos! So I’m putting this out in the universe: my plan is to hopefully shoot at least 2 lifestyle portrait sessions a month this year! I’d also love to do at least one set of mini sessions in the fall for holiday cards, but if I get enough interest I’d definitely consider doing them in the spring with the cherry blossoms and all the budding flowers.
