This Spring Glen Island wedding is the perfect example of the exact time of year I love to begin photographing again, early May. I love the initial start of spring when everything gets the first hint of green and flower buds begin to emerge on flowering trees. It amazes me every year how the ground can be completely frozen, everything looking like it’s completely dead. Yet as soon as there’s even a day or two of warm weather, it awakens something in the earth. I think of it like when I’m riding in the car and then the warmth of sun washes over me and I get a little smile because there is nothing that can even compare to the feeling of that warmth. That’s what I picture all the trees, plants and bulbs feeling, and they smile a little and stretch a little so that their greenery pops out of the earth.
I helped my friend Mekina Saylor photograph this Spring Glen Island wedding. It was such a great way to kick-off the wedding season! Mekina is so much fun to work with and the Bride and Groom were so easy going, laid back, and on time!
I didn’t get to stay with the Bride long as the 2nd photographer, but I did have time to grab a couple pictures of her and her details.
I’ve had a number of brides with these sparkly Kate Spade Keds and I loved them so much that I got a pair for myself in pink!
Glen Island Harbour Club is great because it has beautiful spaces for both the bride and groom that are separate, but close to each other. So I easily went right upstairs to meet the Groom and start with photos of his details and then him getting ready.
I really liked the Groom’s floral pink tie, I might need to find one similar for Ben! 🙂
Once the Groom was finished getting ready I went back downstairs with the Bride and photographed a couple portraits as well as captured her first look with her father.
Then we headed outside for the Bride and Groom’s first look.
We captured the Bride and Groom’s photos while the bridal party made their way to meet up with us. I love this picture! It’s so dreamy with the bride and groom and spring literally opening up behind them.
Her peony bouquet with her lace dress was beautiful!
The Glen Island Harbour Club is located right along the water so it made for a beautiful backdrop.
The Bride and Groom had a Jewish ceremony so it started with the Ketubah signing.
I think the personalized Kippahs were a great touch and matched the bridesmaids dresses perfectly!
It was a traditional Jewish ceremony under the Huppah and it started with the Bride circling the Groom. If you’ve never been to a Jewish ceremony, there are some really special traditions that are done.
All the flowers that were brought in for the ceremony made for the perfect Spring Glen Island wedding inside!
And with the breaking of the glass by the groom the ceremony is complete! Mazel Tov!
One of my favorite traditions is the Hora or the chair dance! It’s alway so much fun, but it takes finding the perfect spot to really be able to capture it well.
Another tradition that starts the reception is Blessing the Challah or the bread.
And here’s a little behind the scenes of working with Mekina! I always love working with her and she is so great with the bride, groom and the whole bridal party. She’s photographed a ton of weddings which means she always knows just how to help out as well as capture everything!
