Abundance

November 10, 2014

It’s so easy to look past everything you’ve been given and focus on everything you want… want to own, want to be, want to achieve, want to do. It can make you feel like you are always behind even when you accomplish one of your goals. This is something I struggle with all the time. I’m more focused on the future and where I want to be and how to get there, rather than just enjoying where I am at this point in time.

Our church has been going through a study on Slow Church and this week we covered abundance. It hit me when our pastor, Dave Stradling, said something to the effect of this being the most abundant time in history. When I started thinking about everything I have been given it made all the stuff I worry about and want seem miniscule. So I’ve decided, especially during this month of thanksgiving, to focus on what I’ve been given. To realize and trust that for my six days of work, God will provide for the seventh.

This week I am so thankful for the opportunity to live in New York (the picture above is from Central Park), to be making new friends and still have the opportunity to go home in Pittsburgh to family and friends. I used to dream in high school of living in near New York City, but I never actually thought it would come true.

And if you’re interested in listening to Dave’s sermon, check it out at Awaken’s website.
