It was a couple of years ago that I started this tradition with my sister-in-law, Elizabeth. Ben and I always try to make it to our nieces & nephew’s birthday parties, but as I became more confident in taking portraits I started taking birthday pictures of the kiddos for Liz.

This year my niece, Katelyn, turned 8! She got her ears pierced and my favorite is that she had a unicorn and rainbow themed birthday party.

Katelyn has the same birthday as Ben. Normally we don’t do too much for Ben’s birthday, but since it was his 30th we celebrated his on Saturday and hers on Sunday. We had such beautiful warm weather for both days. Last year poor Katelyn froze while we took her pictures outside.

I love how the red headband and her blue eyes match her shirt.

Katelyn has such a kind and gentle spirt. Sometimes when the whole family is together she’ll disappear and you’ll find her in the next room reading, taking time for herself. She’s also silly, fun-loving, but is particular about how her clothes fit and what food she eats.

Normally I try to be quick with pictures that we take, but Katelyn said that she loved having her picture taken and wished she could do it all the time. I wasn’t going to say no to taking more pictures : )

Only two more years left for us to do the finger count for her age.

I thought we were done, but Katelyn asked if she could have her pictures taken in a tree… she wasn’t ready to be done with her photo shoot hahaha.
