Chelsy’s Baby Shower

June 20, 2014

Some might say I’m a bit obsessive when it comes to decorating and details. I just really enjoy it and thankfully I have a husband that let’s me do basically whatever I want… and will even help 🙂

When I found out that my best friend, Chelsy, was pregnant around Christmas I began a Pinterest board right away and hoped that I could help plan the shower. Well we found out she was having a girl in March and her mom and I really began the planning!

Chelsy & Jonathan’s theme for their little girl’s nursery is C.S. Lewis’ Narnia with coral and mint. We took that theme/color scheme and added woodland animals to it.

I did the decorations for this shower fairly cheap. With all the weddings and showers that there have been there were a lot of decorations available. The glass wear, cake stands, lanterns, candles and tree stumps are all from previous events. The  “curtain” behind the dessert table, tassels, heart strings and signs I made. (I’ll have some tutorials for the different decorations later on.)

The desserts were amazing! Chelsy’s aunt made the cupcakes and her mom made the chocolate covered strawberries. And those little eclairs were from a bakery in Pittsburgh.

What I’ve found when decorating is the details are the key. But you have to be careful because it’s so easy to get sucked into the details. I like to start with the overall look and then add details in that I know I can manage.

I really love paper straws, they’re such an easy but cute detail.

Chelsy’s mom, Kimmy, said the sweetest little speech.

Succulents make the perfect favor… just saying 🙂

Ladies, if you haven’t read Proverbs 31:25 then you need to. It’s so perfect for this little girl that’s about to enter the world.

When decorating, I also highly suggest buying the flowers at wholesale and then assembling the arrangements yourself. It’s so simple to put a Daisy in a vase or a grouping of Baby’s Breath in a jar.

Kimmy came up with the best idea to have guests put their gifts in Chelsy’s old crib.

I made little woodland animals and lions (for Aslan from Narnia) as extra decorations.

I painted the clothespins one night while watching TV for an extra little detail.

I was really nervous about the weather leading up to the shower, but we couldn’t have had a more beautiful day!

I really love all the cute things on the butt of babies’ clothes.

Jess made sure to keep Chelsy fed…. with dessert of course!

I was told to stand by Chelsy as she opened my gift.

I basically told Chelsy that I was photographing their little baby’s infant session when I found out she was pregnant 🙂 So of course she’ll need a little coral tutu.

I was a little odd as a kid. While all the other girls were playing softball, taking dance lessons or playing piano… I took sewing lessons. I did sewing lessons for so many years that Joann Fabrics pretty much ran out of patterns for me to make. Once I got into high school and college I was a little embarrassed that I took them, but now that we have an apartment and my friends are having babies it’s proving to be pretty useful.

I was so happy to see that she liked the blanket that I may have cried. (I also want to thank Ben for helping me with the blanket. When I broke down at midnight on a Saturday night because I couldn’t figure out the pattern and the seams he stepped in. He also washed the fabric and ironed it for me. He’s the best!)

I was so glad that my sisters were there too 🙂

Poor Shug was so tired from all the activity!

Make sure to check back tomorrow, Chelsy & Jonathan’s maternity session will be on the blog!
