One of the many things that I love about where we live is how close we are to New York City without actually living there. We’re just 20 minutes from NYC and have found so many unique things to do and places to go. This summer our friend introduced us to the NYC Jazz Age Lawn Party.
The NYC Jazz Age Lawn Party began with Michael Arenella and his Dreamland Orchestra when he threw a party for a small group of friends to bring back the Jazz Age. Since then it’s grown into a much bigger event stretching over a couple of weekends.
The NYC Jazz Age Lawn Party takes place on Governors Island which has some really great views of New York City.
I was really surprised by how many people attended and even more surprised by how everyone dressed up in their best 1920’s attire.
Although there’s plenty of accessories available to purchase, I fell in love with this antique picture of a puppy.
There was a smaller stage with other acts and performances.
How awesome are these antique cameras?!? They even worked!
Our friends Tricia and George… Tricia is the one that found out about the lawn party : )
Thank goodness for Amazon Prime we were able to get my dress and fan and Ben’s suspenders in quickly.
It was a great place for people watching.
I like to tell Ben that I need to test my light, but it’s really an excuse to get a picture of him : )
Roddy Caravella led a beginners dance lesson at the beginning of the day. Ben and I arrived in the middle of the lesson so we didn’t get a chance to learn the Peabody dance, but it looked like a lot of fun.
We went to the Jazz Age Lawn Party in the middle of August and it was seriously the hottest I’ve ever been. It was 103 degrees that day and I sweated so much! Somehow my kneecaps were even sweating! Next year I’d like to go to the one in June, I think that time of year would definitely have more comfortable weather which would make the event even more enjoyable. But we still had a great time!
