Try it Tuesday: Paper Straws

August 19, 2014

This is an easy Try it Tuesday that is an easy way to add a little extra decoration to your next party. You may have noticed that paper straws are really making a comeback. Two years ago for our wedding I had to order our pink and yellow paper straws from Etsy. However, today you can find paper straws in craft stores and party stores. And they come in so many fun colors and patterns!!

Well not only can you just use the straws as a decoration but you can add something a little extra. My new favorite thing is Washi tape and it’s the perfect addition to a paper straw. Now it is pretty easy to put the Washi tape on the straws but I’m a perfectionist and it bothered me if I couldn’t get the tape to line up perfectly. So I wanted to show you the easiest way to  make little flags for paper straws. You’ll need:

  • Scissors
  • Washi Tape
  • Paper Straws

To start, cut the Washi tape about 2.5 to 3 inches long. Then start to fold it in half and create a loop. Connect just the ends to that the tape begins to line up.

Slide the straw through the loop of the tape until the tape is about 1.5 inches from the top of the straw. Be careful that the straw doesn’t touch the tape or it will stick. The nice thing about Washi tape is that it’s like masking tape so it’s easy to unstick it if you mess up.

Once you have the tape where you’d like on the straw just slowly press the loop in the tape closed all the way to the straw.

Then just cut a triangle at the end of the tape to make it look like a flag. Ta da!!

Pretty easy, right? And look how cute they looked at Chelsy’s Shower! It’s just a nice little touch.
